Did you know that it is still possible to get dog insurance for older dogs? It is! Insurance for older dogs can be hard to find if your dog is over 14 years old, but there are still some options available to you.
Many insurance companies don’t accept dogs over 12 years old because of the high-cost risk, and even more are reluctant to accept dogs over 14 years old. But some options are affordable while still offering complete coverage.
Older dog pet insurance will come at a cost, but the best pet insurance for older dogs will make up for that cost in the care that is provided to you as your best friend moves into their senior years of life. Adding wellness care that covers regular pet costs can also be beneficial for older dogs. You will want help to keep up preventative checkups as your dog ages.

Senior Dog Insurance Reviews
1. Embrace
Embrace Insurance plan is available for any dog or puppy icluding aged canines and those with pre-existing conditions. We all know that older dogs usually have health issues. It is very frustrating that insurance companies limits their offers on this point. Embrace is not like that, I must say. The company distinguish the curable pre-existing conditions and the incurable ones. If your pup can be healed, Embrace will cover it.
Worried about the price of the plan for an older dog with health issues? You may request Embrace professionals to do your dog's medical history review. In the rest of conditions, it is the reputable insurance company with diminishing deductible feature. It means, your annual deductible will reduce on $50 each year you don’t receive a claim payment. In case, the illness occurs, Embrace will pay up to 90% of your vet bills. It also has a convenient wellness plan.
2. Pets Best
Another carrier that offers insurance for older dogs with no upper age limit for pets is Pets Best. They have no upper limit, and they also will not cancel your coverage because your dog is getting older and having health issues.
The deductibles available range from zero to $1,000 and the annual coverage limits range from $5,000 to $10,000. Pets Best also offers a wellness plan that you can add to your dog’s insurance plan. I recommend this for senior dogs because you will need to use all the routine and preventative care you can, and a wellness plan can help offset that cost
Healthy Paws is one of my favorite pet insurance companies, but they’re lower on the list today because they have an upper age limit on enrollment. Senior dogs can enroll up until their 14th birthday with Healthy Paws. Once enrolled, their coverage is the same as any other enrolled pet, regardless of their age.
Healthy Paws is usually one of my favorite companies because they have no lifetime limits on benefits, but this is not as important for a senior dog. It is also important to note that hip dysplasia will only be covered for pets that are enrolled before age 6, so this won’t count for your senior dog.
Still, Healthy Paws offers great deductible and annual coverage offers that make plans more than worthwhile considering how affordable they are. If you want inexpensive, complete coverage, try Healthy Paws.
4. Petplan
Petplan is probably the best choice there is for enrolling a senior dog. There is no upper age limit on enrollment for dogs, which means you can enroll your dog no matter how old they are. The fees will be slightly higher for an older dog, but fees start increasing after age 8 for most dog insurances, so this isn’t anything too unusual.
When looking for a dog insurance for older dogs, Petplan is a good choice because of the complete coverage options they offer. All plans cover alternative therapies and hereditary conditions. Annual limits are either $10,000, $14,000 or $22,000 with a choice of deductibles from $50 to $200 according to the specific policy.
5. PetFirst
Another pet insurance for senior dogs of any age is PetFirst. PetFirst gives you a choice between annual deductibles or per-incident deductibles, which is great for senior dogs who are up in their years. You never know what kind of issues might happen in an older dog, so flexibility is key when choosing a dog insurance policy for senior dogs.
All hereditary and chronic conditions are covered by PetFirst, in addition to accidents and illnesses. As with Pets Best, you can also add wellness coverage to any plan from PetFirst.

Some people think that pet insurance for senior dogs is unnecessary, but the truth is that old dogs are more expensive than puppies. Even if you’re a bit late in getting insurance for your dog, doing so before their health gets worse is important. Caring for a senior dog is hard enough without needing to find the money to do so:
The best pet insurance for older dogs will have no upper age limits or will have a very high upper age limit. All pet insurance has some restrictions on pre-existing conditions, but you can still get help covering your pet’s health as they age.
Don’t face pet bills alone. Get insurance for your senior dog, and gain the peace of mind that you’ll be able to afford any care they may need in the coming years.
