About the Company

Nature's Domain Dog Food Reviews

Nature’s Domain is a brand of Kirkland Signature Pet Supplies. Its foods are manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods in four locations across the United States.

Nature’s Domain focuses on grain-free dog and cat foods. This help prevent sensitive digestive issues and allergies. These are commonly caused by grains like wheat, corn, and soybean, in pet foods.

Kirkland Signature’s pet foods, including Nature’s Domain dog foods, include probiotics to aid in the digestive process. In addition, all of the probiotics used are human-grade. This means that they are processed with the same standards used for human probiotics. Therefore, they are contaminant and pathogen-free.

My Nature’s Domain dog food rating of 3/5 Treats stems from a comprehensive look into the brand. This includes the ingredients, customer reviews, and the lack of information about the company.

Of course, customer reviews are possibly the most important part of the research for the review process. They give me a chance to see what real dog owners really think of the dog food. However, many customer reviews note severe digestive issues. This is a result of feeding their dogs Nature’s Domain dog food. In fact, symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, and decreased appetite are among the most common.

The lack of information about Nature’s Domain really stuck out for me, too. I like to know a lot about the companies that make my dog’s food. Most importantly, I want to know how long they’ve been in business and what their company goals are. And, why they’re dedicated to proper health and nutrition for dogs. I didn’t find much of my questions answered by the website.

              Pros

Nature’s Domain does, indeed, follow proper nutrient protocols. Its protein, fat, and other nutrient content are on target. It also has some excellent ingredients. And, for the most part, it provides a balanced mix of protein, vegetables, and important vitamins and minerals in each variety.

I like that it offers organic options for those who worry about non-organic ingredients in dog food. Nature’s Domain dog food is also a good source of probiotics, which Nature's Domain adds to each variety, for proper digestive health. Overall, the foods contain ingredients you definitely want for your dog and provide good sources of protein.

              Cons

Unfortunately, Nature’s Domain falls short with unnecessary additives and ingredients that could harm your dog. These include natural flavors, salt, canola oil, and potatoes. All of these can cause harmful digestive issues. This counteracts the benefits of added probiotics.

The Kirkland Signature website also states that some of its ingredients come from other countries. This can be a concern for dog owners. Kirkland Signature lists Germany and Belgium as two countries it purchases specific ingredients from. If you’re looking for a dog food sourced from and made entirely in the United States, Nature’s Domain isn’t for you.

I am disappointed with the information, or lack thereof, for the Nature’s Domain brand on the Kirkland Signature website. There isn’t any information about the brand’s history. But more than that, its answer to the question, “Why Grain-Free?” is that it is “the hottest pet food trend”. It then mentions some benefits, but it seems to treat it as more of a trend than a nutritional necessity for dogs.

Nature Domain Dog Food Review of Ingredients

According to various dog food reviews, the Nature’s Domain Organic Chicken & Pea Formula for Dogs is a favorite among customers and their dogs. Its Guaranteed Analysis is as follows:

              • Crude Protein (min) 22.0%
              • Crude Fat (min) 12.0%
              • Crude Fiber (max) 5.5%
              • Moisture (max) 10.0%
              • Zinc (min) 200 mg/kg
              • Selenium (min) 0.35 mg/kg
              • Vitamin E (min): 150 IU/kg
              • Omega 6 Fatty Acids (min): 2.5%
              • Omega 3 Fatty Acids (min): 0.4%

AAFCO states that “Nature's Domain™ Organic Chicken & Pea Formula for Dogs is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance”, which is an excellent endorsement to have for a dog food. This means that its nutrient profile is adequate according to AAFCO standards.

However, its ingredients fall a little short. Let's look atthe Nature’s Domain Organic Chicken & Pea Formula. I see organic canola oil, organic canola meal, and dicalcium phosphate. These are all controversial ingredients to add to dog food.

Canola oil is thought to cause health issues in humans. Additionally, there is not yet enough research to ensure its safety for dogs. Dicalcium phosphate comes from cow’s milk, which could lead to digestive issues in dogs.

So I looked at some of the other varieties of Nature’s Domain dog food. I found a few concerns in them as well. Let's look at Nature’s Domain Salmon Meal & Sweet Potato Formula, for example. It lists potatoes (not just sweet potatoes), canola oil, natural flavor, and salt.

              Nature's Domain Dog Food Reviews

Undoubtedly, potatoes often are covered in unhealthy pesticides. Moreover, the salt and natural flavors are a concern. Salt and natural flavors are additives for flavor. In conclusion, they are usually unnecessary additions to dog food.

Nature’s Domain Dog Food Recall History

There is no history of a Nature’s Domain dog food recall within the past two years. This is according to the FDA, and reviewers agree.

              Final Thoughts

In conclusion, Nature’s Domain by Kirkland Signature Pet Supplies is an adequate dog food. But I wouldn’t consider it an excellent choice. Of course, it has several good ingredients for a balanced and nutrient-rich meal. However, it has some ingredients that shouldn’t be in dog food.

Additionally, reviews on Nature’s Domain dog food aren’t what I’d consider average. In fact, some lean toward negative, with digestive issues being a primary concern. But this is a dog food formula that’s supposed to be focused on promoting digestive health. We shouldn’t see so many negative digestive side effects.

To sum up, I would purchase this dog food with caution. Of course, if your dog has benefited from it, excellent!
