Rachael Ray Dog Food Reviews, Ingredients, and Rating
About The Company
According to Rachael Ray, food is love! And that goes for pets and people alike.
That is why she agreed to team up with nutrition experts to create the line of dog food known as Nutrish, which is manufactured by Ainsworth Pet Nutrition.
She would not serve food, to pets or people that she would not eat, so she encourages the use of only real ingredients, for real pets. With real ingredients, comes great flavor and satisfaction.
Rachael’s Rescue
Another great thing about buying the Nutrish dog food brand is that all profits help benefit the rescue program created in Rachael’s name, Rachael’s Rescue! For every pound of food bought, some of that money is donated. So with each bag of dog food you can be sure you are not only providing your dog the best nutrition, but you are helping another dog in need!
Rachael’s Rescue then uses the money to help shelters that may be struggling to afford to feed, keep, or treat some of the pets they have there. Every pet deserves love, even the forgotten ones.

Rachel Ray Dog Food Rating
Overall, Rachael Ray dog food reviews point to this dog food brand being a good one for some pets.
While there are a few issues with some ingredients used, there is a wide variety of allergy-free and grain-free dog food options in the Nutrish line, making it a successful line that can offer a lot of quality for your pet at a great price.
I recommend these foods as budget dog foods, but they do not have the best quality overall. They are definitely worth checking out though!
If pets could make their own food, Rachael believes it would be food like Nutrish!
Pros
The main selling point that I see in many Nutrish dog food reviews is that the first ingredient in all foods in this line is U.S.-sourced, real chicken and poultry. Not chicken meal, not poultry by-product meal. Only real poultry. That’s reassuring to me. Lean, easily digestible proteins are the focus of this food.
One thing I will always consider a pro when dog food companies offer it is when the company has a lot of types of food on the market. Some pet owners like to feed grain-free dog food, others like to feed grain dog food. Whether or not your dog requires a grain-free diet, Nutrish has what they need
Nutrish offers both so you can be sure you will find something fit for your dog's needs. If a company has reliable products of both varieties, than everyone is happier. Reviews from Rachael Ray dog food shows that people appreciate that these foods come in many varieties.
Her line offers natural wet dog food and dry dog food. They all come in several different flavors so you can find exactly what your dog enjoys to eat. No matter what you are looking to include in your dog's diet, I am positive you can find something within this brand.
In addition to dog food, Nutrish offers several different flavors of dog treats that your dog will love! Do not limit your pup to the same old dog food, but throw in a tasty treat every now and then. You have many to choose from!
While there are a few controversial ingredients in some of the foods in the Nutrish line, such as peas and beet pulp, all of these ingredients are selected with care and with the backing of the nutrition experts at Nutrish. They choose every ingredient for specific reasons, so it comes down to whether or not you want those ingredients.
Cons
Beet pulp is a controversial food in some of the Nutrish foods, as are peas. However, I believe both are acceptable in limited amounts in dog food as they are found in the Rachael Ray Nutrish foods. I only wanted to point that out.
There has been a voluntary recall put out by Nutrish before for their wet cat food. I do not, however, believe this is an indication of poor quality from the company.
Many recent Rachael Ray dog food reviews mention the food being suspect to causing their dog’s problems, but there have been no official connections made between the food and any illnesses. Still, that’s worrisome.
While real chicken and poultry is the first ingredient in these foods, the second and third are often chicken meal or other poultry by-product meal, and the animal fat is unnamed poultry fat, which I do not like to see. Some of the ingredients here are not as high-quality as they are made out to be.
Rachel Ray Raw Dog Food Reviews of Ingredients Analysis:
Let’s get started on the Rachael Ray Nutrish dog food review of ingredients part of this post. I took the time to read up on the product and also to read many Nutrish dog food review posts by other loving dog owners so that I can give you the best perspective of the ingredients.
One of the most popular foods sold in the line is Rachael Ray Nutrish Natural Chicken & Veggies Recipe Dry Dog Food.
Guaranteed Analysis
- Crude Protein (min) 26.0%
- Crude Fat (min) 14.0%
- Crude Fiber (max) 4.0%
- Moisture (max) 12.0%
The first ingredient in this food is, as advertised, real poultry. But the second and third ingredients are poultry meals, and generalized poultry fat is used which makes me believe that it is low quality, by-product fat, rather than a great fat like chicken fat.
Ground rice is used as a substitute for wheat flour, but whether or not it is brown or white rice is not listed, which is concerning to me as a pet owner. A controversial type of vitamin K supplement, menadione, is also used in this food and other foods in the Nutrish line.
Is Rachael Ray dog food good? I am inclined to say it’s just an okay food if you’re buying one of the foods in the line like this one. Each food in the line is different, so please look at the ingredients carefully before choosing one for your pet. The food is about average when looking at other foods of this price range. Better foods are available.
Rachel Ray Dog Food Recall History
When I first found myself wondering, “Is Rachel Ray dog food good?” I went to check if there have ever been any recalls for the wet or dry food. There have never been any recalls for Rachael Ray’s dog food.
However, the parent company that creates Rachael Ray’s dog food did issue a voluntary recall for canned cat food in 2015. I did not see any information about pets having problems, but there were high levels of Vitamin D in this food, so they put out a voluntary recall just in case.
I like to see a company take responsibility for potential problems like this and feel confident that they monitor their food closely.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Nutrish line is an okay line of budget-friendly pet food that will be good for most pets. If your pet is more sensitive, however, be careful about checking the ingredients and slowly incorporating this food into your pet’s diet before only feeding them this food, as some people faced issues.
The ingredients range from high quality to average, making this pet food recommended but not required in my books! Although it is not my absolute favorite, it may be for you! Check out what Nutrish has to offer and see how it compares to other brands. Most importantly, it is about your dog and what is best for them.
